Default new guy/new(er) car/ new problem-fuel

Hi,
having trouble with diagnostics of a fuel delivery problem.I have a 1990 dx accord w/ automatic.First, is the main relay the same as the "fuel pump" relay? my chilton book and the orielly comp. only show the main. The problem is that when i try to start i get lots of cranking but no run. i have spark and no fuel. the car did this intermitently for a while and now won't revert back to running. the puzzle is that it would only pose a problem when trying to start. it never tried to die.any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks

The 'main relay' is the fuel pump relay. If it has problems mostly when the interior is hot, that's most likely it.

Turn the key to 'ON' but not all the way to 'START'. Listen for the main relay to click, fuel pump running, then click again to turn off the fuel pump. The common way for these to fail is they still click, but they don't deliver power to the pump.

I'm pretty sure there's something about this in the DIY section.
