I am the original owner of a 1994 ACCORD EX. It has 180,000 miles on it and today the ABS light came on for the first time. What does it mean and how can I disable it? Thanks.

That light is telling you that your anti-lock brake system is not working or is malfunctioning. Frankly I wouldn't just blow it off, I'd have it inspected soon by at least two different garages. The thought of stomping on the brakes without ABS and skidding into trouble is not appealing.

MOST LIKELY ITS BECAUSE YOU HAVE A FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. First check your brake fluid levels to make sure their not below the min. limit. it could set off the abs light. most likely its one of those two problems....good luck!

nah - brake fluid low will turn on the "brake" indicator and only after a while will turn on ABS light

it could be wheel sensor, but could be not..

hey my car is so smart - if I lift it up in the air and try to run it - it will turn the ABS light on

so I went and plugged the computer to check the ABS code and it gave me code #xxx

and a message : WTF dude, my front wheels are running and rear wheels hold still - I'd better signal you with ABS light that something is wrong!!!

i have a 1996 accord and the only light that wont go off in my accord is the SRS. Does anyone know how i could get that to go off. I hooked it up to a machine and it didnt say anything. What could i do next?

turn the engine OFF and wait 10 seconds <--- you have to wait 10 seconds for the memory to reset.

you need SRS service connector - when you plug it to the Service check connector the one on the passenger side. Turn the ignition ON - the SRS indicator will come on for 6 seconds and go off. Then it will indicate the DTC code:

the DTC consists of a main code and a sub code and including the most recent problem up to three different mulfunctions can be indicated.

main code flashes are 1.2 seconds in duration while sub codes are short flashes of 0.3 sec. the delay between codes (main and sub is 2 seconds)

in case of intermittent failure the SRS light will indicate the DTC one time then it will stay ON

so read the code and tell me what it is

ive had the abs shut down for a while. think it was through severe abuse of the brakes. went a couple of days without it, amd then it fixed itself! the manual says its self checking. but to be honest i would like it gone. abs annoys me

well then you need it checked and replace the part that is bad

since then had no problems with it. except, i can still lock the wheels for a lil bit, but thats under severe punishment (downshifting into the redline while braking)

but anyway, i cant really afford to have it looked at. is there any basic checks i could do, other than the obvious visual......

Ya if you wheels can lock at all...the ABS is not working....meaning you can slide easier...its not a backup system like stated before...its an added feature to the brake system that helps you control better....especially if braking in wet situations.

i remember the first time i ever triggered ABS in a car. it was in my accord, the car i had before had 4 drum brakes and locked up really easily. anywho- i slammed on the anchors in the damp and there was this really strange dull thudding feel from the brake pedal. i was really worried, never felt that before and i thought that i had a flat, or blown a tyre when i braked. man i felt stupid getting out the car in the cold- looking at the tyres and thinking "wtf?" and then going "aaahh, stupid me.... that must be the abs!"
