I'd have to say it's simply due to 1: the sheer volume of accords on the road. 2: older cars are usually left more un-protected. I'm more likely to leave the keys in my 94 accord than my 00 durango... 3: I believe those studies are based on the number of vehicles of that type that have been stolen. So if there were 30 of them stolen 6 years ago and only 25 civics stolen over the last 10 years then it's going to rank high.... You also have to take into account that the accord has been the #1 selling import quite a few times so there's a larger volume of them out there....

Yep, I think that volume also has a second reason why people steal it. It's alot harder to pick the car out on the road if the police (or anyone else) is looking for it since it seems like there are about five accords on any given road. Easier for them to sell or do whatever they do with them. Then again, I don't know if car thieves are smart enough to think that far into it...or they wouldn't be stealing cars.
I'd say the older ones are stolen primarily because of the lack/disregard of/for security, like Sir Nasty said.

cars are stolen for the following reasons
#1. value of parts when car is stripped
#2. Resell car in another country
#3. joy riding or use in a crime

When i got my Viper alarm system installed the guy recommended I get the trunk and hood sensor so when either are opened, the alarm goes off.....I didnt buy them but I am planning on getting them installed later. He said he recommended it because its easy to get to the hood latch cable (fender well) and cut it, then disconnect the battery and bye-bye alarm unless you opt for the battery backup.
