04 Accord LX 4 cyl Bad exhaust smell and wont idle
This was running ok with the engine light on I have replaced the camshaft pos sensors a month ago and haven't taking it in to reset the codes. So it has a major problem now it will start if I press the accelerator and will only stay running if I keep it above 1500 rpm. Its running rough with a bad smell from the exhaust . EGR was my first thought. Have any of you had this or know what it could be?? Thanks for any help
EDIT I changed out the pcv as it looked like it was in bad shape and now it's actually running worse then before there is a lot of rattling from the valves when i didnt hear any yesterday when I started it. Timing chain ??

If CEL is still on after a month, you probably didn't fix the problem. First step is to get the code and report the actual code, not what an auto parts clerk says is the problem.

It was put on a code reader by a pro at a shop. First code was one of the two cs sensors so I replaced both the mech told me to bring it back and he'd clear the codes I just didnt take the time to go by there. The cs sensors made a clear difference and this is nothing like what it was doing . Its barely running now im thinking EGR maybe but Im not sure

Many times a "sensor" problem doesn't mean to replace the sensor. How can we help w/o any knowledge of original codes? Check your invoice. Sometimes the codes are noted on the invoice.
Autozone, in some areas, will check stored codes for free. Suggest checking w/ Autozone to see.
good luck

You might want to remove the valve cover and check the timing marks on the cam pulleys when the crank is at TDC. A stretched chain can start giving strange codes. Google stretched timing chain for a honda accord or acura TSX, because I can't remember the specific codes.
Also inspect the timing chain tensioner.

I took it back to my friends shop the tech remembered the codes as running lean and the cs sensor. He listened and from what I told him about the change in symptoms he's 95% sure it's the timing chain guide and tensioner Now is this a tough repair that should let a pro handle or not too costly under$500. I'm a true handyman and I've done this to an 91 grand am once before. I just haven't worked slot on newer then 2000 veh much at all. If I diy what else should I do other then guide and tensioner , chain for sure or one if it's chewed up. Thanks for all the help
