Default 1995 Accord Speedometer failure?

The speedometer hasn't worked in this car since we've had it. (I bought it off my neighbor for $200). It's apparently an electronic problem. I haven't done any testing on it myself, but all I know is when you turn it on, the speedometer jumps to 20mph, and stays there. Sometimes, when it feels like it, it will tell you the speed, as long as you're going over 40. That's a rarity though. If anyone could give me a hand as to what I should do, or how I can at least fix it, I'd appreciate it.

The car is a 1995 Honda Accord LX Coupe

My 1995 LX does the exact same thing and it has for several years. I tried to change the speed sensor and it worked for about 15 minutes. I have done a little research on the subject and read that there is a chip that warps and causes the malfunction. I just haven't bothered to try to find a new one. Although I doubt I would find it anywhere aside from a junk yard, and it very well may have the same problem.

Is Check Engine Light on? If yes, get code and post.

VSS is not the problem if cruise control works.

good luck

No, check engine lights not on. I'm not sure if the cruise control works, although I am fairly certain it does.

Does the odometer work?

I'm guessing it is more than likely the speedomoter/odometer itself that is broken. It is a fairly common problem in the 94-97s. Some tech savvy people have been able to take it apart, and re solder the connections on the back and get it to work. Or you can get a used cluster on ebay for around $80. A lot of the sellers can roll the mileage to whatever you want or you can just find one that has approximately the same miles.
