Headlights are faded or blurred, can you polish it?

The 2000 Accord Cpe's headlights are faded, can you polish them?

Yes. Your local auto parts store should carry a headlamp cleaner and polishing kit. Usually found in the same isle as the paints.

my friend heard that toothpaste worked really good, and he tried it and it actually cleaned them, its worth a try but it would go with the commercial stuff.

My dad owns a used car lot and we have found the miracle solution for faded headlights. We do this procedure on atleast half of his cars.
-1- Tape around your headlights with green painting tape. (available at any parts store)
-2- Tape newspaper all around the headlight so you don't get any overspray on the car.
-3- Wet sand your headlights for 5 minutes each with 320 grit sandpaper.
-4- Wet sand each headlight again for 5 minutes with 800 grit sandpaper.
-5- Wipe down headlights with a dry rag. (make sure they are completely dry)
-6- Spray a light coat of Dupli-Color clear coat on each light.
-7- Spray a heavier coat on each headlight. (Continue spraying until headlight looks clear)(Don't spray paint on too thick)

This process sounds involved but it only takes about 45 minutes. You may want to try it on something else before you do it on your own car. Just takes practice. It truly works though.

Some have had success with meg's plastx (plastic cleaner/restorer), others have had success with wetsanding techniques, and some people have also used paint polishes/abrasives to do the job. Autogeek has alot of this info on the forum, andcheck outgoogle too, its a pretty common problem. -Mike

Welllllllll..for me it's much easier and less time consuming to throw a new set of Brand New Headlights in those cars for the cost of ..say
$66.66 a piece for...say the 1994 thru 1997 Accords w/side marker lights included...does anyone else agree with me ??

Yes they can be polished I do it all the time. BUT! It depends if they are faded from the outside or the inside, both can occur. Sometimes it lasts, sometime it does not.Wetsanding works wonders but you can also really screw them up if you're impatient or not careful. They still must be polished afterwards.Wheelbroker's idea of replacement makes great sense to me. Are the lenses glass or plastic?

Here's what works on my 87 Sable with less than state of the art plastic light bar and head lights:

Rubbing Compound by Turtle Wax.
Don't go nuts with it.
Polishing Compound ditto.
Carnuba based wax

Headlight r/r on these cars is not trivial ... I believe you have to remove the front bumper and grill.
