I've seen steelies painted black and they actually look really good, but i think any other color is too tacky.IMO.

But then again i do hate hubcaps, with a passion.

Ok, black paint the steelies, then tape out spokes and chrome paint over the black for the cheap rim look.

I was kidding, but you could really do it. I was talking about making outlines for spokes that would be painted on by painting the wheels black, then chrome spokes on top of that. The caliper painting kit that I recently used had a spray cleaner for before you paint; I think it's brake parts cleaner, but I'm not sure. You should clean the wheels well, pre-sand with 1000 grit wet paper, re-clean then paint. Also, paper and tape the tires to keep the paint off of them. If I were you, I'd clearcoat as well to protect the paint. If you want a dull appearance, you can wet-sand the clear with 1800 grit.

As long as you do what we said properly, dont over spray, clear coat.. and some tire shine.

Then it should come out fine... a good DIY with a friend or dad.
