Rust Proof
If there are already rust spots on the car you would have to remove the rust by sanding, then prime it, then paint it. Rust will keep spreading as long as the paint surface is open to the metal beneath it. To keep the paint lasting as long as possible, wash and DRY it often, plus a good wax every month or so.

Actually, many people and collectors do not wash their cars. For example, many just wipe it down with the California Duster, but I believe there is also a dry powder car wash they use too. This way your car never gets wet.
When my dad "washes" his Lil red, he either just uses the California Duster, or uses a quart sized spray bottle, and does small sections at a time. The truck has not seen rain for as long as we have owned it.
