Question 2003 Accord Radio problem

The radio on my 03 Accord will turn on randomly when the key is not in the ignition. I first time I noticed this happen the door was open, thought there might be a short related to dome light circuit. More recently the radio will turn on for brief periods with no key in the ignition, doors closed. Is the problem with the radio, ignition switch or short in wiring harness?

Thanks

I just started having this same problem with my 2003 Accord. I have not noticed the radio coming on with the door closed, but I have noticed it with the driver door open.

Have you figured out what was causing this honda350?

Default Same problem. 03 radio turns on without key in ignition

We are having the same problem with our 03 Accord. I first noticed this when walking past the locked car. The radio turns on spontaneously without the key in the ignition. It operated at medium volume level then turned off, then back on several times before I intervened. I was able to stop the cycle by turning on the ignition to ACC and then turning off the radio. Our radio also turns off and on unpredictably when driving. could this be related? As I understand it, the radio should not be fully energized unless the ignition is in the ACC position.

We recently had to have the ignition switch replaced (at a cost of $560) after we could not get the key to turn. The radio did not turn on spontaneously before the switch was replaced, but that might be coincidental.

Have you search in the audio/visual section for possible answers? After searching in there, if there is not any answers you might try posting this question there?

After extensive internet searching, I have found that this is in fact a problem with radios from 2003-2005 Accords. The big problem is that no one has found/posted a fix to this problem. I really don't want to replace the radio if the problem is somewhere else. My biggest curiosity is how the radio is turning on when the ignition is off. I now that there is 12VDC to the radio for the clock, but unless there is a internal short in the radio itself, it should not turn on. My next guess would be the ignition switch, but replacing that is a huge pain because of the shear bolts used to mount it. The switch is only $52, but changing it out is brutal. I guess I'll just have to live with it until it becomes a real problem or I decide to quit being so cheap and just replace it with an aftermarket one.

there was a extended warranty/recall of sorts on this model radio. take it to honda. if you are under 110k miles they will replace it at no charge. they did mine. i had a different radio but still any problems are covered.

you still may want to take it up there and ask. couldnt hurt. they maybe able to work something out at a fair price for a replacement.
