Default 2004 Honda Accord aftermarket radio help

Okay long story short, Best Buy installed this and the bulbs behind the HVAC icons are not on, so in the dark I can't tell what buttons do what. The green light above each button does work. It looks like Best Buy used a scosche dash kit, and the numbers on the back (5324) don't seem to match the correct dash kit, although I don't know that those numbers are supposed to:

Honda told me that the dash is getting power (green lights) so maybe all of the bulbs are out? They want to charge me to inspect. I would've had them do it last week but they said it would take an hour and they were already taking longer than they said they would and I had to go. Any ideas on how I should proceed?

I think the problem is that there is no T-Harness that plugs into the factory radio:

If that's the case, can I just buy the T-Harness?

they used the wrong wiring harness.
they should have used this one.
New Car Stereo Audio Dash Wiring Harness Wire for Installing A Aftermarket Radio | eBay

and I just looked at the pictures, I am not suprised they used crimp caps, But I am disappointed that they did. next time you get a stereo installed ask what method they use to connect wires. If they say anything other than solder and heat shrink go somewhere else. It isnt that what you have wont work, but if you pay a premium price you deserve premium work. but then again, they used the wrong wire kit too, so.....

Yea I figured that out over the weekend and talked to best buy yesterday. The guy claims they don't have access to purchase the correct harness. All they can install is the scosche kit that apparently doesn't have a harness for the factory radio. That sounds a little shady to me. I didn't know I could order just the harness so I ordered the metra 99-7862 kit already. Best buy said they would install it for free. I should've just installed this myself, I've wasted so much time because of best buy's incompetence. Needless to say, I will not be using Best Buy again if I ever want to save myself from taking the time to do the install.

I'd get a full refund. If there were going to be "issues", they should have contacted you first before proceeding with their "satisfactory" (or good enough) installation parts.

I have always used Crutchfield. They supply all the harnesses and adapters. They also give you detailed instructions on how to remove the factory radio and how to install the new one. Finally, you will get lifetime phone support as well.

Yea I really wanted to avoid doing all of this myself but in the end, I would've done it right the first time and not have to go through all of this hassle. It's a shame you can't trust companies to do their job well.

I bought the right kit, Best Buy installed it for free, and now I'll probably sell the scosche kit they gave me. In the end, my radio and lights work so I'm just glad to be done with all of this lol. Thanks to everyone that helped!

I've got a 2006 LX. In the dark, I've noticed when I first turn on the lights, The backlighting of the radio LCD and the other HVAC icons on the center console seems proper, then usually dim after a couple minutes of running such that I can barely discern what they are or say. Paladyr, you spoke of the radio and those icons/buttons around it associated somehow. Are you able to tell me a bit more? I also will mention that I have had the loud "pop" and then no sound from the radio happen to me a few times. Did someone have a solid answer on that?

The HVAC lights and radio share power, it's all one big device. When you get an aftermarket radio, you need a harness that has a Y cable for powering both your new radio and the old radio (powering just the HVAC lights and nothing else).

Your radio is definitely dying though if you're hearing the pop with no sound. I don't remember the HVAC lights dimming when mine was dying but it's been a while since it happened.

Thanks for the reply! So the HVAC buttons get their power through the power that comes to the radio harness; they do not have their own harness of some kind? I didn't expect that!
These symptoms make me suspicious of an intermittent open or short somewhere in the radio...
