2004 Honda accord navi
Car - Honda accord 2004 EX Sedan with navigation
A colleague's navigation unit was stolen (from the trunk) and the connector from the GPS antennae cable to the navi was cut off. Now he has a new navi unit, and all the other cables are plugged in (he can control audio, AC, etc) but the GPS antenna cable is not in, so maps are not working. The Honda dealer says he has to buy the complete harness set and installation would require removal of the back shelf. Total cost is about $400.
Is there an alternative? Spending $400 just because one connector is missing sucks big time.

that is no ordinary cable. the antenna cables are complex and cannot be spliced. making a new termination is possible, if you are VERY skilled with a soldering iron.
thieves are dicks.
are you comfortable with running wire and removing panels?

Apart from creating a new terminator, is it possible to buy a seperate GPS antenna? I saw some on sale on ebay but don't know if they will work.
Do you know the part number for the complete wire harness? Maybe he can look for it on the web instead of buying from the Honda dealer where it is much more expensive.

hey, wouldn't it be easier to have him call his insurance company and have them replace/pay for the damages done? just a thought. if your friend had a 500 dollar deductible it would actually be worth it. Saves him time, money, and have it done professionally.

the price isn't just the part, hondapartsdeals has the part for dealer prices. the price from the dealer is mostly labor to strip the car and run the wire.
it is certainly cheaper to run the wire yourself, if you have a weekend to take the car apart and reassemble it.
