I don't think it's an amp, so your on your own on that one. I've given you the information I have to offer.

After further review and searching, that unit in the picture is actually a XM Satellite Radio Control Unit Receiver.

On other thing you can try is to take out the factory HU (hopin you have the code for it) and check continuity to ground on the individual speaker wires (usually twisted together at the harness). If any of them come back with a beep you have a grounded out speaker which can cause the audio to act the way it is. Can also check on the impedance of the speakers themselfs. Should be 3.5-4 ohms. If both those tests are ok, then new HU it is. Good luck

Totally an old thread but figured it was worth a shot

Soldering the resistor in question brought back my back lighting but did not solve the issue of no sound. I will investigate further next chance I get, is there anything else i ought to look for?

This thread didn't mention a resistor, what are your referring to? Photos? Fixing lighting on a factory HU is a nice solution for many.

This thread mostly pertains to investigating for a shorted speaker output, and suggests disconnecting the HU and measuring resistance between speaker wires and ground to look for a short. Radios will internally shut off when they see a short.

My bad i was looking over another thread earlier and thought i had came back to the same one to post about what mine did.... I will try to find the post as I think the OP also mentioned no sound as well.

There was a SMD resistor that wasn't completely soldered and touching up the solder helped.
