Default 2010 Honda Accord speaker questions.

I have a new 2010 Honda Accord EX (with 6 speakers). I love the car but the speakers are pretty pathetic. My old 1996 Accord had better stock speakers than this thing. Anyways, I was wanting to replace at least the speakers in the front. That is the two tweeters and the two woofers. I was looking into upgrading the speakers to something like the Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System. I am a complete car audio n00b and I would like to learn so any help would be appreciated.

One question I had was involving the audio crossover. The component systems comes with them but does the stock Honda Accord head unit already have a crossover built in? In that case should I install the crossover that comes with the component system or what? The crossover is definitely the biggest thing that worries me, it would be great if there was a built in one that I could just use and didn't have to mess with the mounting and the extra cabling of the separate crossovers.

Also does anyone know if those particular speakers would fit easily in the front door panels ( because I would rather not have to do any crazy modifications to the housing, and I want everything to look stock)? I would like to also know of any other considerations and tips when upgrading my front speakers.

I don't need the top of the line speakers and I do not want to have to add an amp to get good quality sound out of them. I just want something with a nice crisp sound that just sounds good, I am not looking for anything crazy powerful either.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me with this.

if you replace the speakers, you cannot power them from the factory head unit and expect better results.

factory sound systems suffer from very poor amplification, and poor quality speakers. when upgrading the sound system, both parts need to be addressed.

the factory tweeter has a crossover (capacitor) mounted on the tweeter, the woofer is full range, and the two are just wired in parallel. When installing new speakers, you'll need to find a spot to mount the passive crossovers, and run your own wire to the tweeters. you can sometimes use the factory wiring to the door speaker.

if you decide to just upgrade speakers without adding an amp, you can locate the passive crossovers somewhere behind the dash and splice into the door speaker wiring.

mounting the speakers is the next challenge, and you must take care so proper seals are made. see this other thread for descriptions on that process:

Default Accord Coupe speaker replacement

I am considering buying the 2010 Accord Coupe, but agree with the original poster here that the speakers are less than adequate. The speakers in my 1998 Accord are better than these. If I buy the car, I will want to replace the speakers. Anyone have a ballpark idea of how much it would cost to replace the six main speakers? Just a ballpark number. Nothing too fancy, but better than average. Including installation costs. Any ideas?

You could get good (not great) replacement speakers for $300 (front components and rear coaxial).

Installation will run you about $100-150.

Spending less won't yield better results. Speakers less than $70 are usually as good as new factory.

The new speakers won't sound as good on the factory amp. A small aftermarket 4 channel amp is recommended - another $200 installed.
