Best 12 inch Subwoofer + Box for under 200$
Looking for the best 12 inch subwoofer + box for under 200$. Will run off of a 1000 watt Sony Xplod XM1652z ( It's all ive got for right now and i plan to replace it real soon). I listen to a lot of dub step/techno. The Pioneer TS-W302R 12 and sealed box i bought of my buddy for kicks and giggles just doesn't hit the lows at all. I want something with good all around range ( as dumb as that sounds.)Running some songs through a signal analyzer shows the primary bass frequencies being between 35 and 55 hz, as low as 31 and as high as 67. As far as i know the only box that would give me good output across a band that wide is going to be a 6th order bandpass. I have about 4 feet to work with in the trunk. My buddy has been trying to talk me into a couple Rockford Fosgate's and Alpines but im not to sure how much knowledge he really has.
Any info would be awesome.
Thanks

on the sonic electronix website they have a RE srx12 for $94. this sub is a dual voice coil so youll have to run the signal wires through the port or install an extra set of terminals. a kenwood kfc-w3012 for $119(buy 1 get 1 free) or a MTX jh5512-04 for $100. And a simple ported box from absolute(sps12) for $70. MTX sub will need some polyfil or a different box size.

where are you shopping? online? local shop? pawn shop?
for entry level subs, i look to Kicker, JBL, Boston Acoustics, Powerbass, and Alpine.
The Sony XM 1652z has the following ratings
165W RMS x2 @ 4 ohms stereo
400W RMS x1 @ 4 ohms bridged
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...1&mdl=XM-1652Z
So you'll get almost 400W RMS to a single sub. Not a lot of power if you have high expectations, but enough to play the frequency range you want.
You can get a flatter response down to 30Hz with a properly designed vented enclosure, but you'd have to build it yourself. The prefab ported enclosures are a pointless purchase since they are randomly designed. Only if you do the calculations and the prefab is EXACTLY the same as what you want for the tuning you want, it can make sense. Another ported option is to buy an enclosed sub - a factory combination that is properly designed.
Crutchfield has the following enclosed options in your price range with a 4 ohm load:
JL Audio CS112RG-W0v2
A sealed enclosure that is slightly larger than the median recommended volume (for a Q~.85) will probably make you happy. Try to locate it in the passenger corner of the trunk/hatch/etc. to minimize destructive phase interference.
Crutchfield has a 1.25cu.ft. sealed enclosure: Sound Ordnance BB12-125S for $60.
Then you can pick up a single 4 ohm voice coil or a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub with a 200-400W RMS power handling.
