Default No sound from Subwoofer

Ok so I've had a 1200 Sony Xplod powering a single 10" sub for 2 years now and when it works it is awesome. but most of the time I do not get sound out of the speaker. It is in my trunk on a sound box. I got a wiring kit with a 500 uF capacitor too. The remote wire used to be hooked to the window fuse but since i can power windows from my keys that killed the battery. Now the remote wire is on the unequipped moonroof fuse. i checked all the wires. amp lights are green but no sound.

2009 Honda Accord.

mebe its too hot? im gonna check the ground connection too... make sure theres no plastic coat on the metal.

How about I move this post over to A/V Electronics, where the sound gurus hang out.

i assume you are using a line output converter to give the amp a signal?

using the fuse box for a remote turn-on is not advised. you have the opprotunity for the amp to be on when the HU is off - which is not good.

a good quality line output converter can provide an auto turn-on output to act as a true remote turn-on. Pacific Accessory Corporation makes one, as do USA Spec, and others. did you just tap the rear speakers for a high level signal?

intermitent sound is usually the result of poor connections. the quality and reliability of a system is all about connections. amplifier grounds must be tight - no ability to wiggle the ring terminal. power wire ring terminals at the cap and battery must also be tight. speaker wires can come loose inside sub boxes - and speaker connections should be made with properly sized female disconnects or soldered wire. Some sub boxes use terminal cups to allow for a connection point - those can fail and their connection is also crucial.

any of the aformentioned connections can cause your problem. if you can take photos of these connections i can evaluate from a visual perspective. see my build log (link in sig) for proper wire routing and connection methods.

another option is that the amplifier is going into protect mode from too low of an impedance - either because the sub is wired for a low impedance, or a few wire strands are shorting - either way, a protection light would be on. what is the impedance of the sub voice coil(s) and what model # for the amp?

I thank everyone for their help and concern. the problem is solved "for now at least". lol
I moved my ground to a different bolt on the car, one with less paint and spray on it.
