Default A subwoofer setup? I want your thought!

I have a 2001 Accord (sedan) with Kicker DS6.2 6 1/2" in the doors, Kicker KS69 in the back above the back seats. and a Kenwood KDC-X395 as the receiver. I want to know a good sub setup for my car with an amp and everything. Not over $400. I don't know to do 2 x 12"s? a 15", which brand to get how many watts or what. I'd like you guys opinions. THANKS!

Forgot to mention, I like good clean sound not much on the really really loud muddy stuff. Thanks again

GPI makes an 8 a 10 and a 12 that will be able to be setup in that price range. out perform subs that cost tripple that amount. hand made in house by dc audio.

Amp, Box, Wire, Sub for less then $400??

<face palm>

Flea Market I guess...

Seriously you do not really want a sub setup if $400 is your budget.

ok.. I would have to say if that is really your budget then

Audiopipe Adsm1300 (amp) apx $115
4 guage wire kit (a real one not fake from ebay) $50
a single prefab sealed box from Sonic Electronics (do not buy a pre fab ported box as they are always tuned way too high) $80
a dual 2 Ohm 12" Skar sub $179

$424 Total

That is the best I can do

This is my current sub system
This is one of the most budget setups I have ever done (not cause of preference just cause of financial reasons)
This system cost (just for the sub system not the rest of the system) apx $1,300

2 - Skar 12" subs = $350
custom box = $300
Fosgate 1,500 watt amp (used) $350
HO alt $180
1/0 Wiring $100
Dist Block $20

Plus battery and battery terminals plus wire and connectors for Big 3

Crispin: I don't think your post really helps the OP. Seems to be a "tad" out of the price range. Nice setup though

OP: Too bad you didn't ask a week ago, Crutchfield just had some steals on Sound Ordnance subs, amps, and box. The reviews are spectacular. I setup The B-24's and M-2250 Amp in a buddy's car and I was impressed.

The B-24's were 139.99 but still a good deal at 199.99:
Sound Ordnance™ B-24 Bandpass enclosure with two 12" subwoofers at Crutchfield.com

Amp was also on sale at 109 now 159.99. There is a 20 dollar coupon through crutchfield. Search google
Sound Ordnance M-2250 2-channel car amplifier — 175 watts RMS x 2 at Crutchfield.com
The amp produces 500w RMS 1 channel at 4 ohm

I know Sound Ordnance is not a "Name brand" and is sold through Crutchfield alone but they seem to make very good products. I was very impressed with the b-24's. I have a Sound Ordnance amp in my pick up and I have had no problems out of it. You would would have this setup in my car. Very clean sound and the box looks great!

IMO you cannot beat the "bang for the buck." Certainly beats Wal-Mart brands and just as cheap

a gpi ts 8 retails for 170. you can get it cheaper. its 800 watts rms. that should be plenty of sound.

hifonics hfi 1000.1 for 170

a knu 4 awg kit will run you 50 and a db link will run you a little less. both are tru sized ofc.

thats 390 without a box. build your own box. would take half a sheet or so of mdf. you could go to a local cabinet shop and ask them for scrap and they probably wont charge you.

also there are parameters on the sub that control this but the biggest factor is the box. you want tight punchy bass you go with a smaller box. you want loud deep flat bass you go with a larger box.

Also could i use this Amp (Rockford Fosgate Prime R600-5 5-channel car amplifier — 50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com friend has it brand new wants to sell for $200. ) to power my speakers and this sub if i get Sound Ordnance™ B-24 Bandpass enclosure with two 12" subwoofers at Crutchfield.com
No, the rockford amp that you have there is designed for powering speakers not subs. It only produces 300w at 2 ohms. The B-24's are 4 ohm with 500w RMS. The amp that I pointed you to would be ideal.

that rockford is a 5 channel amp. it is made to run two stages and a sub.

my personal opinion though is that subs need their own amp. a bass amp allows much more adjustment. and I prefer a class d for subs because of subs being inefficient (compared to speakers) and you get most of your power in the early stage of the gain. where I prefer AB on speakers because your power increase evenly with your gain and you get less distortion.

But crispin is right. His is done the right way with no short cuts. Like it really should be done. Everything he said was on point. also I don't see how it didn't help the OP. Yes crispin set up is way out of the price range. But from his set up and the amount of info I have seen him post...he knows what he is talking about. IMPO do it the right way or don't do it at all....it pays to play!
