Default Painting Trunk

Went over to my friend's yesterday to paint my trunk to get rid of the big fade spots on it. I spent like $10 on the paint/primer at Pepboys. It was our first time ever painting a car so try not to make fun of it.

Well no one I know has an airbrush so I kinda did have to. Any suggestions for the finishing touches will be greatly appreciated. And for taking off the trunk.....It was about 6pm when we started and it was only getting colder. No Way am I gonna stand there trying to put that back on. Maybe if it was summer.

Well,

1. I would have sanded it first.

2. Clear coat it with something...

1. In the 2nd pic were the trunk is all black, that was after it was sanded 2 times 2 different grits.
2. What kind of coat would you use? I thought Primer(The pic were the trunk is gray) is a kind of coating, but yet again, I am a noob to paint lolz.

Clear coat is that clear paint that goes on top to give it the shine.

Ah. I'm still not done yet. We gotta put some touchup paint on the white circles. And also there's a paint line of were the old paint/new paint meet which makes it look like black tape. The first 2 pics are when it was done the same night. You can def see the line around the edge of the trunk. The third is just showing it. It doesnt look as bad as of today but I gotta figure out how to maybe buff out/smoothen the line out.

Same with my car... when I bought it it had a scratch on the front left bumper. I bought the touch-up paint at Pepboys, then went home and painted it. When I finished I thought, 'darn it, I should've sanded it.' It would've looked a lot better.

Good job on the trunk though.
