Hello Accord Forums,

I tried searching around for a similar thread, so pardon if I'm 'that guy'... I'm in particular need of advice.

2007 Honda Accord Hybrid JNA1 engine, when attempting to change valve cover gasket due to oil leak, discovered valve covert tube seal area is deteriorating:

Seems to be linked to Coil pack. Looks like shorting / misfiring?

Obviously I need to replace that. I checked out the junk yard, and grabbed an 05 JNA1 front and back cover (and 2 of the 05 jna1 coil packs). I didn't realize it at the yard but these are deteriorating too, but not nearly as bad:

Is this cover usable?

I also grabbed a normal V6 valve cover, but it's not quite identical. Can these be used interchangeably?

Or should I have ultimately just ordered dumb cover through honda at the start?

Please advise, I'm overthinking it a little, but I don't have the background to feel confident in any of the decisions. Can anyone relate?

That is definitely uncommon. Those two parts are not interchangeable. If you can find some good used ones it will save you money but it looks like you're going to have to go to the dealership to even get those parts. After a quick search I couldn't find any outside of the dealership. They are around $200 a piece

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's just bad luck that the only accord hybrid at the junkyard had the exact same problem. The one I pulled is too deteriorated to use?

It just looks like the spark plug tube seals are bad. Spark plug tube seals list price is $3.70 each from Honda.

Honda part number12342-P2F-A01 or 12342-RYE-004.

 

Roger that, and I've got the seals. That's what this effort started out as. (though it was the whole cover seal that was leaking oil)

Is that damage to the tube seal area on the aluminum cover not a concern?

 

Yes it's a concern. You're vacuum is gone and should cause misfires. You need new covers

 

Ah, thank you for the info and completing the picture.

Valve cover ordered.

 

At first glance it seems like it's the tube seals but when you look closer it's actually the cover that's deteriorating.
