Default 2005 DX Automatic

Guys/gals, new to the forum and new to the Accord as we just received this one from a friend...a nice friend at that! Question I have is this...the mileage as checked on the trip odometer and the mileage odometer when compared to milke markers on the highway seems to be off. The trip odometer is showing AI have gone 1 mile at what I think is the 8 tenths or 8.5 tenths of a mile distance. Could it be the tires on the vehicle are the wrong size? Also, the dash illumination of the radio is dark. Is this fuse driven?? Thanks in advance...

Yes the size of you tires can effect the milage put on your car... Does the car have aftermarket wheels??? If you are reading less than a mile for every mile you go, that could be considered a good thing to a re-seller... But try using a different way to calculate a mile, instead of 65 on the highway through markers...

Check against the mile markers over a wider area. Different highway? Go 10 miles or so & compare along the way.

Normal mile markers can be quite inaccurate. I've gone along with quite good agreement for miles then suddenly at one specific point the next mile marker is way too close. Occasionally I can blame it on an obvious road-repair like when they rebuilt a whole interchange & the lanes take a whole different path compared to when the interstate was first built.

Thanks for the replys and I will try gauging the mileage on a different hwy and see what difference it makes. Still need an answer to my other question regarding the dash lighting of the radio. There is none in this car...using the little **** that the trip odometer is set by does nothing for the radio. Another thing I cannot figure out is when I open the hood, right in front of the battery at the grille is a black piece of cowling that flares at the end but leads to nothing. It almost looks like it should route into the air breather. Its just venting into no where. Any idea what this is? Thanks...

I'll try to remember to check about the radio illumination - not sure without a circuit drawing.

I don't remember that cowling thing from my 2003, but maybe it's a kind of nozzle to blow air across the battery??
