A20A1 performance enhancement?
hello i have an 89 accord that i am using at my local dirt tracks 4cyl class. i know i have picked the worst car to use and the A20A1 is bearly worth having but its what igot and id like to try and get some more power out of it until i can replace it or the car itself during the off season. so far i have removed all the vaccum line exept the dist advance and have set the timing to 20 degs and made the secondaries manual. the car feels great by the end of the straitaway but is powerless coming out of the turns. i was wondering if a little cam timing could help??
as for rules, i basically have to use oem parts until i have the time/cash to get a better car or do some kind of swap which to understanding is no easy task
thanks for any suggestions

you might be able to do a b18 ls swap. no vtec 1.8l it's pretty much like doing a b18 swap to a point. then you can match a b16 trans with it and you won't have any issues with getting out of corners. the b16 gears a pretty short just stay away from b18 gears they are long for a b series engine.
Or if you can manage to fit a f22 block in the engine bay you can do a f22a block with h23 head can swing about 150-160hp and you can use a OEM p28 ecu with a tune…because you will NEED a tune to run this swap

i think when i replace this car ill be looking at the 1994 ish integra anyway. this car has an automatic in it so i would need to stay with an auto.
im really hoping i can just get a little more out of this car for the last 5 races of the season. then start hunting down the "right" car. i bought this one for 800 buck race ready. so its what i got for now.

Auto....yea I'd drop that. Yes I have a bit of love for the 3rd gen's (86-89).
The auto's with carb....not what I would have. If you could swap a 5 speed in there, a whole lot of fun. I would think that swap would be within the rules?
Then if you would go with the FI (LXi models) and a 5 speed
The 89 LXi 5 speed is #1 in my stable....most fun. The 87 LX 5 speed was/is second. I had an 86 DX 5 speed and it would be #3.....notice that I like a stick The 88 LXi auto would be #4

how difficult is it to go to an manual. i assumed lots of work for a "1000" dollar car.
poorman- you seem to know the a20 engine pretty well, is it poosible to do some cam timing and increase or change the "powerband". car is strong at the end of the straits. i was thinking with changing the cam timing i could get some power to come in sooner??
