Hello all-

I am new to hondas and i am considering getting a 2003-2005 accord and want to know if i were to go out and drive a accord without vtec and then one with vtec will i definately tell the difference. I will be going soon to test drive but just wanted to find out what you guys could tell me.

I realize you are looking at used cars, but if you were to test drive two newvery similar cars at a dealer (one Vtec, one not) you wouldnotice that the Vtec engine really comes to life after around 4500 RPMs compared to a non Vtec.

 

tkundert2 is right. But trust us, VTEC is a completely different world. VTEC should DEFINITELY be considered when you're buying a car.

 

Thanks, alot guys... But to help me understand are you saying that vtec wears off after a few years or are you just talking about the power loss associated with used cars? Also if there were to be two used accoerds one vtec and one not would i notice the difference?

Here is an oversimplified explanation:

Vtec engines have a second camshaft (w/aggressive profile) that is engaged only at higher RPMs; you get the mild profile at lowRPMs. Non Vtec engines only have a single cam profile.

 

there is no 03-05 accords without vtec... well I-Vtec and they arent even vtec they are Economy Vtec... get a civic SI sedan

Lol it's funny, VTEC even though it's four letters stands for Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control. Amazing how I got that memorized.
