Best engine to drop in my 97 Accord SE?
I'm gonna drop a new engine in my 1997 Honda Accord SE due to way to many engine problems. The engine in it is a 2.2L F22B2. It's a 4 door sedan. What would be the best engine to get put in? I want a vtec and I have someone that can hook me up with one cheap but I'm not sure what type of engine would be best.

i had a F23A1 in my 01 sedan and it worked wonders and probably still does. It had 175,xxx when i sold the car and it was still pulling strong. What is the tranny? My wife had an 02 sedan with the same motor but it's an auto and I don't really like the combination, wish i coulda swapped out for the 5spd. Hers has 107,xxx on it and nothing wrong with it. Try local junk yards to find one. Idk if you would have to buy a kit for it to fit or not. I know they changed body styles in 98-02. I don't like the auto tranny due to the fact that we live on the opposite site of two mtns and have to climb both to get to town. That's also why she doesn't have that many miles on her car. We always go in my 06 v6 sedan 6spd!!! Good luck with the search.
if you are looking for performance. Go with a h22 swap. Lot more fun to drive over your stock engine.
Also mac f23 engine isn't all that special. They have weakl ringlands and weak rods. They are the 1st to blow when adding extra pressure on the block.
Also you didn't provide if your just looking for a replacement engine or if your are looking for something faster?
Also there is 2 types of vtec. SOHC vtec like on your f22 is NOT made for performance. It's made to gain better fuel economy. DOHC as in the b16/b18/h22/f20b engines are made for performance and to be revved out to make its power.
We also need to know a budget to give you a realistic answer for your swap.
The h22 would be the best bet for power...but if you don't have 2k for a FULL swap you might want to look in another direction. Like maybe turbo your stock f22. They make good power (more than the h22 will) for the same price. But you can still make 200+ hp for cheaper. Just depends on what YOU want. I also suggest to do a TON of research be for doing anything. Searching will be your best friend all the info and more is out there at your fingertips.

all he asked is what would be the best engine. I personally loved my f23 engine. I used it for a daily driver and all I had on it was a CAI. Then again, I didn't really want that much performance out of it. That's why I now got a J30 motor.
Which actually brings me to a good question.
Where can I get a chip for my motor? I want to pull out some more HP out of it without doing anything major. I plan on putting the RV6 J-pipe and pre cat kit on it as well as a full exhaust. I know a CAI will help with acceleration and top end but it's not the power that I am wanting. If I want extreme power, should I do a turbo or supercharger?

Why are you asking a new question on someones thread?

well anywayz....if you want to "chip" your ecu. I'm not sure 100% how it works for you v6 guys. But for us 4cyl guys if your obd2 you will need to swap to obd1 with a conversion harness then get a chipped and socketed tunable ecu like so...
hamotorsports.com/socketedp28.html
(also if you look at the bottom of the page you will see the obd2 to obd1 harness)
Then you can run a chipped and socketed tunable ecu in your obd2 car. Now after you will need to find a tuner and get a tune to either smooth out your air fuel ratio or put your accord on a dyno and squeeze every bit of power of it.
Now if your not obd2 then you just need to buy chipped and socketed tunable ecu and get a tune.
*edit* if your a auto you might not want to try and get a chipped ecu and a tune. Little to none of the tuners will tune a auto car.
