i think he meant mods that aren't expensive, such as Exhaust, headers, intake, new spark plug wires, ect...

HORSEPOWERJUNKIE2007 05-26-2008 09:10 AM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

those are still expensive

KevinAccord 05-26-2008 09:16 AM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

not compared to 3k+ for a SC or turbo set up, don't you think?

HORSEPOWERJUNKIE2007 05-26-2008 09:46 AM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

true but i'm just saying he should just save up,well we don't even know how much he's looking to spend..J_comte how much money we talkin here.

KevinAccord 05-26-2008 12:53 PM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

anyways... SC Since V6... but that's xpensive (4-6k)... Cheap means under 1k (u'll get like 3-5 mods)

That's the way to start out... with the above mentioned items. There's no telling when a starter may go bye bye. Do yourself a favor and make sure EVERYTHING is in top shape before you spend money on go fast stuff.

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

Ok...here's the rundown

Headers ~200
Intake ~ 200 (or the eBay route which is ~ 75-80)
Exhaust ~ 500-600 (custom: 700)

Engine Dress-Up (including spark plugs, wires, etc.) ~ 140

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

i agree with checking your core components; starter, altenator, belts, plugs, etc etc.

as for budget mods, there's bolt-on catbacks, intakes, that's really all that's worth it...

eventually you could get new headers. but i'm not convinced it's entirely worth it on an accord. but i don't know much, so take it all for granted.

HORSEPOWERJUNKIE2007 05-26-2008 11:40 PM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

how you going to assume he means under 1K.

what you might find as cheap,he might find as expensive for all you know he's probaly not even trying to spend 1K.Maybe he wants to spend 500 or under.

Learn from the rest of us and all those crappy Hondas you laugh at on the road: better safe than sorry. If you take the cheap road, you're going to enjoy shelling out money twice for a cheap part and then more for the right part or putting stock parts back on. if you don't have money (like me) just I/H/E and be done with it. New suspension parts and wheels/tires will make your car hella more fun to drive.

The first mods on your car should be the following:

-remove the intake resonator in your front bumper (DIY, free)
-quality tires (ultra high performance rating - all-season, ~$280)
-performance anti-sway bars (~$300)

Next, look into cat-back systems (~$500)

as usual falkore, i agree with you. Cept the swaybar part, not to say your wrong, just my swaybar money is going to either a new TL Type-S or a Gixxer

Oh and dont forget to add weight redux...thats free!:)

falkore24 05-27-2008 03:34 PM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

Depends on the level that you plan to take the suspension to. A matched pair is going to perform better than the TL's bar. I haven't seen anyone else put down a 0.9g turn with a sedan that weighs in over 3000 lbs.

..... as far as a budget project goes, I agree that the TL bar will offer a great improvement over stock and will be fairly cheap.

Do this first or play the fool! Take it from one that has learned the hard way.......and WAS the fool.

You can get intake, header, test-pipe, cat-back exhaust, lightweight pulleys, hi-flow spark plug wires, grounding kit, msd ignition all for around $1200-1300

i liked J_man's list... what's you budget anyways? Mine was 400 (b4 the turbo obviously...)

We can't bash on you for taking a step up in the world ;)

It's on this site, but for the life of me I can't find it.

http://www.filtsai.com/accord/index.php

The intake resonator is like an exhaust resonator, it quiets the airflow by passing it through a large chamber to slow it down. It weighs a good 8 lbs. and is basically useless besides what I wrote. taking it out will get you a growl under acceleration in between stock and a cold air intake.

Loudness and airflow increas from Stock -> Resonator Delete/High-Flow Drop-In -> Cold Air -> Short Ram.

ziwang55 05-28-2008 03:31 PM

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

so ur saying that i can do that with my stock accord? its a 03 accord ex
and i still cannot find the DIY for that.

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

where's that???? my car doesn't have that right? or u mean theblack box...?

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

It was hiding in the AEM CAI instructions: http://www.filtsai.com/accord/AEM-CAI/index.php

Kevin, it's in the passenger side behind the bumper cover and and fender splash guard. Sorry, but you do have one my friend. Takes about 20 minutes, a few screws, a few bolts, and a ton of plastic rivets.

HPJ: it's ok... i know you didn't mean that buddy...

Finch... My car is turbo... i still don't know what you're talking about but i'll bet i took it off a while ago! lol
Thanks for the info anyways man!

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

I'm not sure, but I think on the 4 cylinder models, the resonator is on the stock intake piping .... the black box between the filter and the TB that hangs off the pipe. On V6's, the pipe is fairly smooth, but the resonator is upstream of the filterbox. There is a little snorkel that pulls air from the top of the driver side headlight and runs down into the bumper where the CAI filter goes. The resonator has an outlet connection to the bottom of the filterbox.

Ahhh crap....its not there. But the box is monstrous.

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

I doesn't cost THAT much for intake headers and exhaust.

I bought all three of mine off of Ebay.

Headers and down pipe were like 80
Catback exhaust was only 150
(It sounds sick, don't talk shi*)
New intake was about 40

I also got both tower braces, and rear lower tie brace all for under 60.

These prices include shipping. In fact, shipping costed me at least 1.5 times the price of the actual parts.

I WILL ADMIT THAT PARTS SOMETIMES SEEMED CHEAP OR NOT WELL DESIGNED. However, this is the sellers fault. Two sellers sold cheap crap, but I've had quality parts from qualitysellers off of Ebay.

RE: Cheap tuning and horsepower ideas

I agree w/ u... not everything on ebay is crap... my purchased a lot of thing from ebay for my turbo kit almost a year ago and it's still working fine... Only problem I've got was the coolant hose broke and it stained my car (I lended my car to my g/f and she didn't said anything to me... since coolant is corrosive, it staind my engine...im sooooo pissed) but the car is ok...

three letters: PVC.

I really dont see a problem here.
