I have a 96 accord vtec. When I put it in D4 it willstall for a few seconds and dies.The check engine light goes on and off but doesnot stay on when it is run good.Codes are clear.It runs fine in R. Any ideals? Thanks

 

Get the codes read. If the light went on, there is a code in the ECU.

 

I checked the self diagnostic and the check engine light stayed on. Does that mean no codes?Sometimes when start the engine and shift to D4 it will run, when give it gas it stalls and dies. Also when the engine stalls the speedometer hand moves and the car the sitting still.

 

Go to AutoZone to get the codes read on a scanner. I'm not sure what the DIY codes are supposed to be, but there are charts available if you do a search on google.

 

I took to Autozone last week they could find the plug on the car. I have the codes for the self diagnostic. It does not say anything about the light staying on.

 

I have a 97 EX and the plug is behind the ashtray.

 

I looked behind the ashtray not there. I made a mistake the year is a 94.

 

Then it is OBDI, you have to short the blue 2-pin connector under the glove box and turn the ignition to II/ON and read what the CEL flashes at you. Long blink = 10 and shortblinks are ones. i.e. One long, three short = Code 13.

 

I did short the blue 2-pin connector under the glove box the light stays on until I unshort it then it goes off.

 

Ok, I pushed the gas pedal to floor in Park and it done the same thing. It would get up to 2000 rpm stall and the check engine light would come on then go off around 2200rpm, then run smooth. This car is driving me crazy.....
