Well I guess it depends if you are going for performance or not. It also depends what your budget is, and if you have to legally pass emissions. Most people swap for a H22, it offers 200hp and 8,000rpms. But you will run into problems getting it to pass inspection and emissions. You are also looking at a few thousand to do the swap correctly.

1st off how much money do have to spend on a swap and install? That will give us more of an idea on what to recommend engine wise. Also like Cam said will this be a for performance or just to keep your accord alive?

Keeping anything OBD2 would be difficult. You can't tune OBD2 ECUs, which is why everyone uses OBD1 ones, but that won't allow you to pass state inspections.

With H22s there is only 1 OBD2 ECU that will work, and that is the ECU out of a 96 Prelude. People generally know this is the only year that will work so they charge $300+ for them.

The other swap that is possible, and would keep it OBD2, is a K24A2, but with this you are looking at a ton more money.

H22 estimated budget:
H22 longblock $800-1000
Tune up parts $300
ECU $300
Engine mount $150
Miscellaneous $300

Total: $2,050

K24a2 swap estimate:
K24a2 longblock $1500-2000
K24 5 spd transmission $400
K24 6 spd transmission $1,200
Engine Mounts/axles: $800
Wiring harness: $500
ECU: $700
Tune up parts: $400
Miscellaneous: $400

Total:$4,700+

As you can see there is a huge price difference, and those are just the parts I can think of off the top of my head. Also remember to factor in labor if you are not doing the swap yourself. Which even for the H22 swap you are looking at at least 10 hours in labor, K24 more than that since engine mounts need to be cut and welded etc.

Also stock for stock these swap will yield about the same results. The K24 does have more upgradability, but parts for it aren't as cheap as the H series.
