Default F22B1(SOHC) to F22B (DOHC JDM Prelude engine)

I did a basic search and have not found anything on someone actully attempting to put a F22B (DOHC) in a 95 Accord with the F22B1 (SOHC). Has anyone tried/done this swap? A friend of myine got it for a good price, but as we are finding out, it is quite hard tryng to find/get parts for this JDM engine.

A little background on myself. I own a 91 Prelude Si 4WS and have swapped a B20A in for the B21A that was in it. So far, his swap is looking to be more than the "cut and paste" that mine was.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I might be speaking out my rear but it would appear that an F22B and F22B1 both have the same displacement but one is 160 HP with higher compression (prelude motor) vs. the 145 accord ex motor.... Is a head swap possible?

I would think that you can swap the head and cams, ECU, and maybe some wiring, and you should be good to go. I think everything else should be pretty much the same.

Are the mounts different for the JSpec motor? If not, I dont see how the swap could be very difficult at all.

The problem is that the F22B1 is on its last leg and he didn't want to rebuild. From what I can tell, the swap doesn't look too complicated, it is just sourcing parts for the F22B. Being a JDM engine, running to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts will be out of the question, unless H23 parts will work on it. As it looks to me, the P/S pump, alt, and A/C will bolt back into the same places that they are currently in (the brackets are all the same), but before I put that thing in, I would like to replace the timing belt and water pump. I read somewhere that the F23A1 water pump will fit it but it is a 20 tooth gear(belt side) vice the 19 tooth F22B W/P.

mounts all "look" to be the same. It also didn't come with a trany, so I hope to god his 5spd will bolt right up too

LoL

Now you said he already got this engine? Where did he get it? Any chance he could score a tranny from the same place, or at least find out from them if his transmission will bolt up to the engine he got? If the mounts are the same, and I would really think they would be, then the actual swap itself shouldnt be too difficult.

Well, I was pokin around on Majestic (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com) and according to their parts system, the F22B1, and H23 share an oil pan (they have the same part #), which is good news, cause the F22B's is pritty well banged up. We are pullin the F22B1 out of his accord on Sat. We will find out then if the trany will cross over or not. I guess we could also take pics of the process too and get them posted up so you all can make heads and tails of the mayham

Thanks ejd715, she is a 'lil B to keep runnin lately. Seems like the few things I didn't replace with the engine a year ago are now going south. But alas, to own a 3rd gen Prelude is to constantly have at least 1 thing broken/not working right at all times.
