Default h series manual tranny with f22 block.

I've been spending countless hours online reading about turbos, engines, the effects... blah blah blah. It seems that EVERYONE has something completely different yet seemingly intelligent to say. None of it even adds up.

Here's what I know for certain:

I'm going to turbocharge an f22b1 engine.
I know how to install the turbo.
I know I need to work on my fuel delivery.
And I've read many times that I should get a new cam. I guess. Idk, I'll worry about that later.

The problem I'm having is wit the transmission. Right now I have an automatic f transmission. I've read that the automatics will be totally destroyed within a year. I've read that manuals are better for boosted cars, but the Accord manuals aren't nearly as good as the prelude's manual tranny. You know, and ten of course there were people saying thhe opposite. Saying that they would rather have the accord's transmission.

I want what will last the longest. What will take the most abuse, so that I don't have to get a new transmission a year after boosting the car.

Recommendations?

I wouldn't say that a prelude transmission is any more reliable than an Accord transmission. They are very similar, the Prelude just has shorter gears, so they are probably about even in which one will take the most abuse.

Still, in either case the manual should take more abuse than the automatic.

If your cam gives you a high-revving engine with a narrow power band, get a Prelude manual trans. If you set it up for a wider power band (not necessarily high-rev) then get an Accord trans.

The H- and F-series trans are pretty much identical as long as the years are close. A popular thing to do, well maybe not popular, but possible, is to swap the F- 5th gear into the H- trans so you still get good gas mileage while cruising.

You mean the case & fit-up are the same? I guess I meant the ratios were different.

Yes, the ratios are shorter in the H- trans. I guess I was just adding on to what you wrote.

All H- and F- series blocks and manual trannys will bolt up to each other. If you're swapping over internals, I keep the years close as I don't know the exact differences inside.

If you want in town red light racing go with h22 tranny if you want to do hwy racing do f tranny. Me personally Id go with the h22/23 tranny shorter gears get the power down to the ground quicker. But with that said you need good set of tires to keep traction.

Couldnt help notice you want to turbo a F series...thats about the same configuration I have. Dont worry about any cam swaps...unless you want to boost more than 10-15 Psi. Your going to need to upgrade your fuel and ignition...it will cut out real fast. And as far as the transmission goes the F manual is reliable but what everyone else is saying about the gear ratios is true. It does move on the highway tho..
