Default H22A swap legality

I have a '92 Accord Ex and I want to swap out the F22A6 for an H22A1....how legal would it be and what parts as far as emissions regulations are concerned must I keep?

There are many websites showing the "how to" for this swap. I never see anything mentioned about a legality issue. I would like to know this information as well, since im thinking about doing this in about 2 years.

Depending on what state you live in most emessions test just check for how "clean" the motor burns and I would assume that as long as you are within those specifications you'd be ok..... You'd probably have to ask the emessions people unless someone here has done the tests themselves or lives in your particular state....

Actually, he is on the right track. You can only swap in engines that are not in an older OBD bracket. Hence, you could NOT legally put a 91 engine into a 92, because 92-95 are OBD 1, and 91-prior are OBD 0. You can put OBD 1 or OBD 2 engines into an OBD 0 car, but not an OBD 0 or OBD 1 engine into an OBD 2 car.

Nope, for Honda its 92-95 OBD 1, anything 91 or earlier is OBD 0. But really you could probably get away with the swap if you dont live in California lol. And I think you can still put an older engine in the car as long as its in the same OBD bracket (i.e. you could put a 92 engine into a 95 car) but Im not sure on that.

saying you cant put an older engine in a newer cause because of emissions standards is a moot point because of the fact if you go from obd 2 to obd1 or obd0 on a newer engine you lose emissions control and in most cases wont pass the emissions test
