Hi. Any codes set? CEL on? If the engine is misfiring, as you reply suggests with fouled plugs and the other answers, the computer will cause a DTC for either random cylinder misfire OR cylinder misfire on 1,2,3, or 4. The fuel filter will cause another code, usually a/f too rich or too lean. An intake manifold leak will ususally present itself as a erratic or jumping idle.

Shoot me some codes, and I will pull out the shop manuals. I work for Honda so maybe I can help!

Hello Wheel, I need some help really bad.....my 93 accord LX instrument cluster is acting crazy. First the speedo started acting irratic, sometimes it will register right and other times it goes to 35mph and stays there. At idle, the speedo sometimes will slowly creep down to about 12mph.....now the fuel gauge is acting stupid. Could you help me please. My personal email is darryl.travis@eustis.army.mil

Thank you

That's how my speed sensor acted before it quit on me. It could be that. But if the fuel gauge is acting up, it could be the cluster I guess... unless the sending unit is scewing up too.

Depends on the year.

Older Carb'd:
- defective vacuum system, (affects spark advance ).
- defective accelerator pump.
- EGR valve.

Thanks to all for your invaluable help....I have resolved the problem, the cluster was crapping out. After a few trips to the yard, I found a unblemished cluster and presto! I have now cleaned the IAC valve and my car is running alot better too. What should the idle speed be and how do I adjust it....does the ECU have to be reset?

Hi D.Travis..
IAC should check out @ between 8 and 15 oms..
The idle speed is controlled by the IAC valve and is activated by the ECU itself and this depends upon the running conditions of your engine, your A/C unit, poer steering, cold and warm running..set idle to what your VECI lable on your car has , if lable is not there car your Honda garage to get RPM listing...
