k20 v. h22...which one is better

i have an f22a6 motor in my Ace and im thinking about what motor to put in. which is better, a k20 or an h22?
and since an h22 is 2.2l should i just do a head swap, would it be best to do a motor swap?

RE: k20 v. h22...which one is better

The head swap is the best idea ..... the cast iron sleeves in the F engine are better than the FRM ones in the H22. As I pointed out on another of your threads, the K spins the wrong way, so you'd need a lot of custom work and a new tranny.

A k24 would be better. More work though.

you prefer the k24 over the k20? It can't rev nearly as high safely.

that you get from a new head?
+10ish? If that?

The higher power comes from higher compression, which is mostly because of the pistons. I spose you could get new pistons and a new head, complete with solid-state ign and a knock sensor to retard timing, and then you could get about 200+, but for that effort + $, might as well just get one of those engines^. Altough a K engine would not fit without serious modification to the vehicle.

Yea, for an accord. A k20 would be a dog driving around normally. The k24 has more power at lower rpms, would be a much better match for a heavy accord.

a k20 right now goes for about 5 grand, while the motor mounts go for about 1 grand, and the labor alone is crazy!! i would recommend an h22, or if you prefer, just do a head swap.

I said nothing about a turbo. Only 240hp...how much do you think you need?

I hear you ...... I guess my K-studies are based on Si's and CRX's, so what you say makes sense considering the added weight of the Accord ...... I'm gonna have to look into the K24 a bit .... I noticed that the Corsport frontpage is an EP3 with a K24A2 in it. I guess I've mainly been looking at the 20 because that's what all SI's have in them stock and I like the 8000+ rev limit, but if I can make more power overall and more acceleration from the 24, it's worth looking into.

What exactly is an f22b1 motor. is it dohc vtec?

BlkCurrantKord 11-20-2007 09:40 PM

RE: k20 v. h22...which one is better

It's the SOHC Vtec 94-97 EX motor.

SteveO_f22a 11-20-2007 09:43 PM

RE: k20 v. h22...which one is better

So then that means that the f22b2 is dohc, right?

Vtecddd 11-22-2007 03:46 PM

RE: k20 v. h22...which one is better

Nope, the f22b2 is the SOHC 130hp non vtec motor.

SteveO_f22a 11-22-2007 08:19 PM

RE: k20 v. h22...which one is better

so i guess there is no dohc for the f series motors. just h and k series motors?

F22B and F20B and F20/22C are all DOHC.

yea a good site for an F20B is www.jdmtigerjapanese.com. the F20B has about 200 hp and has a high-ish redline and is dohc vtec. oh and only about 800 bucks w/no tranny.
