AT to MT. Is it worth it?
I love driving both MT and AT, obviously MT isa lot more fun and saves you a little gas but is it really worth it changing from AT to MT? I know I would have a lot more fun driving the car, but how much would it cost? I've heard over 400 bucks and that just isn't worth it to me for that amount. Maybe if it was 200 bucks or so.

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
The parts alone would probably run more than $400. Unless you plan on doing it yourself I cannot imagine how much you would pay a shop in labor. Not worth it unless you do it yourself and will enjoy the project.

A shop will charge from 2000-1500$ with parts

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
You'd be lucky to find the tranny for under $400.00 let alone the clutch, pressure plate, drive axles, shift cables, shift pedal, center console, shifter, tranny control unit.....

Don't do it. Not worth it.

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
Wow. That's a lot of cash. 2 grand is half of what I paid for the car! Yeah it's not worth ifit's that much. i was just seeing if my friend actually was talking withany sense.
How about if someone who has a MT wantedAT?Could we do a swap of some sort? |
RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
Lol....that'll be the day.
Yeah....it's an easy 3k to swap trannys (6 speed) |
RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
I prefer MT but IMO the only way I would consider it is if your AT is trashed, and you have access to a complete MT car from a junkyard to gather all the bits and pieces required.

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
IMO its not worth it at all, esp in accords, because the swap costs as much as the car is worth, and doesnt raise the value of the car at all.
i would rather just buy a car that is MT |
RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
not much of anything you do to an accord raises the value of it

not worth it....

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
read this post on civic forum, this guy did the swap on his civic for 1500
http://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_295187/tm.htm i plan on doing this swap when my transmission breaks too |
RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
How sad of me my AT transmission died on my accord and I had that one rebuilt for about $900. I really wanted to pay some extra money and have it converted to a MT but my dad said no lol. Sucks to be 17.

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
the real question he should be asking himself is, "what do i want to do with the car?". if its just a beater, leave it auto if you dont care. wanna race it, take it to the track, build the motor? 5 speed perhaps then. everything together including the tranny should run about $1500-$2000, that includes labor. by yourself might run you $600-$800. but, this is a decision the poster should ask himself first. decide the direction you want to take the car and go from there.

RE: AT to MT. Is it worth it?
haha. It sure does man. I'm 17 to. I was just curious to see what the price was. My bonehead friend always is talking about how he loves manualsthis and that and how 'bad' mycar would be if it was stick. and I toldhim it'd cost way to much then hesaid it shouldn't cost 400 bucks. and I thought if it was 400 bucks of my own money, I might do it.
But I'm not. I'm just going to wait until I start college to get a300zx/240sx which willbe MTand leave the Accord to being an AT. |
