Question Oil Life meter 07 EX-L Coupe 4cyl auto

OK folks, here is the question, just picked up this Coupe used. 66 thousand miles. I just did an oil change, 5w-30 full synthetic (Amsoil) the oil life meter is already showing 80%. Now I know little to nothing about the system on the car. I was curious as to what the general thoughts on this system. How accurate is it. Should I just change with mileage, or go by what the meeter is telling me? Thanks in advance for your input!

OK I believe that I've gotten it figured out. I just bought the car and didn't know how long the oil had been in the car. So wanting to start out fresh I did a change. I was of the thought that it did a physical check of oil life. It is rather a calculated life, with that said, it's a mechanical reset. I will reset the life meter once the Girlfriend comes home from work. Thanks, I actually found the answer from a Google search that took me back to this site, I didn't type in the right question to find it on the Forum search engine. Wonderful site here!

You probably won't be able to reset it until it runs down to 15% and displays the maintenance lamp.

Not a huge problem, if you want to get back to using the oil-life monitor just change oil when it gives you the warning lamp. Or tolerate the warning lamp for a little while longer until the monitor actually goes down to ZERO.

Like you said, it's a CALCULATED life. It doesn't actually measure the oil.
