PS removal durability questions...
Hello! I am thinking about removing my power steering completely from my 94 accord. I understand no real power will be found and the wheel will be very heavy but to be honest I would rather a very large amount of feedback at the steering wheel. my question would be has anyone done this? my concern would be excessive wear on something in the steering assembly. I have never taken much pre-power steering input stuff apart in my accord and I dont know if they use plastic knuckles in the steering column or if some other problem will be found. I don't have money to throw at this so the replacement of parts isnt exactally an option. I would be greatfull for any input and I'm sorry if this is the wrong area to post this!
w/o pwr steering at low or not moving at all the wheel will be very heavy to turn. Im a mechanic and have worked on cars w/o pwr steering and to turn the wheel is very hard. Yeah once u get going faster it will be easier to turn but what if u have to do an evasive turn goin slow to avoid hitting someone/thing?
I dont have power steering in my Accord. I would just recommend rigging up a system so their is still fluid in the system. Just cut the lines and have and input and output going to the reservoir.
This will just prevent dirt and things from getting in there and keeping the system lubricated.

again a heavy steering wheel is not a concern. I have had fwd cars w/out PS in the past and I understand what will happen. My plan was to completelly remove all reminants of the power steering system not just disable it. thanks for the input though!
Well what I'm saying is you can take the pump out. But your still going to need some sort of fluid in the rack and pinion. So just take the reservoir and hook it up to it so it has fluid. You can even hide the reservoir behind the engine so no one will see it.
Iv done this also. Just make sure you loop your lines and fill the rack with fluid. OR if you have the tools and time Remove the WHOLE rack from the car. Get bearing grease and a grease gun and force fill the race with grease. Then weld all the line holes in and out of the rack. Iv seen few ppl do this so you never have to worry about adding p/s fluid over time. B/c even if you do loop all your lines you will get a leak at some point in time.
