Cool "Spaghetti rods"

I have a 96 EX Coupe 2.2 VTEC 5MT (F22B1?) and recently heard a mechanic refer to it as the "spaghetti rod" motor. Any truth in this? If so, just how weak are the rods? At what point in modifying would I need to worry about upgrading the rods? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

i can't believe nobody has posted on this yet. the f series rod has the largest journal ends 55mm but the rod itself is stupid skinny. they break at the wrist pin and dont like to go over 6800 rpm . the stretch is so bad the lose the piston at the top of the stroke. other than that there great engines. mild builds that aren't high rev based , or even a boost application will work great, nothing over 12 lbs, should be fine . the block can take it and so can the crank , the rod is the weak link
hope that helps

Hmm never heard the term but heres the kick in the *** the f22b1 and the h22a share the same internals internals referring to the length width how ever the h22 is meant for high proformance and the tensial strength may be higher then that of the f22 but far as over all size there the same

the main dif between h22a and f22 are not the rods its the bore h22a 87mm f22a 85mm but the valves on the h22a same pedestal diameter just the size of the end is 1-2 mm bigger then the f22a far as not having a clue hmm maybe Honda is wrong about there motor cuz thats what they claim. but who am I to argue of what rod is more sound ask honda

i guess i am supposed to be owned on that one? but the funny thing is i wasn't talking about your post. but is good to see you do your homework. more time than i would put in any forum post. the fact of the matter still remains , F rods are weak. same size as a H or not they will not take the revs the H will do. the H head is a far more superior design too
