Cool Transmission

My 2004 Accord EX has 147,000 miles and has been a good car. Unfortunately, the transmission has failed. My mechanic told me it is burned out. Due to the ineffective cooling mechanism, the Honda transmission installed back then did not do a good job of keeping the transmission cool. So, it is being cleaned out, new parts installed and $2400 later, I should been back on the road by Monday. I do have one question.....should I have the timing belt changed soon. That would add another $600 to the cost of repair. My mechanic also changes the water pump in addition to the timing belt.

Has the timing belt even been changed? How long ago?

Is it a V-6? Then YES, you're on borrowed time.

Is it a 4-cyl? Your K=series engine doesn't have a timing belt.

Just curious, did you ever have the tranny fluid changed? Or better yet, have a complete flush done?

Can't flush honda auto trannys...you can only drain and fill. None serviceable tranny filters!

Well, you CAN hook up a flushing machine & flush them. That's the problem; Honda auto-trannys don't like to be power-flushed.
