Default transmission question?

i was reading in my car manual today an i came across the transmission section and it said if you were to put the car in 1st gear you could shift up and down while driving like a manual but no clutch thats what it said i tried it today an it worked really good but could this be bad for my transmission shifting it when its an automatic? thanks for your help.

the gears in an automatic are for when you're driving on steeper hills.
theres no point if you're driving normally

what it means is, that u start in 1 and when u reach about 3000-2800 rpm move it to 2 and so on, but DONT DOWNSHIFT, wait till you come to a complete stop before shifting to back to 1
the downshifiting will damage it, up shifting will not, all it allows you to do is be in control of when it dose shift

That's weird. Why would it damage when you downshift but not up shift?

I'm good. I never feel any jerk when i downshift into 3rd gear..Not that I do it much. But I do know that from D4 to D3 you don't need to press the button and/or hold the brake. But from D3 to D2 and back to D3 you need to press the button. But the jerk IMO is the rpms shooting up. The transmission hurts itself everyday because its a POS 6th gen auto tranny..Unless you got the rebuilt one from the warranty.

well i got a 143k on it, idk want my mom had done to it she said something about the tranny i dont rember what though, and 3 and 4 are almost identical gear ratios, 4 is just a bit higher(its more of an over drive

ur car when u coast is almost always in 4th btw, the only time ull feel any realy jerk between 3rd and 4th is at about 80-90, then again i have the v6 if u have the 4 it might be alot different
