Default What Synthetic weight should I use

I have decided to go w/ synthetic oil on my next oil change, but Idk what weight to use.

I have a 2006 honda accord Lx V6 w/ 23k miles (my next oil change is at 25k miles). I live down in Texas so it dont really get cold (25 degrees is about it) But during the summer this year we saw up to 103 degrees. So what weight should I use

x2 .... 5 or 10w-30 will do. I use 0w-30, but NJ is a bit cooler than TX.

Why would you not use what Honda calls for which is 5W20?? Since you are going synthetic 0W20 is an option. There is no reason to second guess the engine designers.

Oh .... I didn't realize that your engine wants 20 weight .... the second # is what matters. 0, 5 or 10-w20 will work, with 5-W20 being the best for you as stated above ..... good catch Rick!!!

On the safe side, use what Honda recommends. I use 10w30 syn blend (Valvoline MaxLife) here in Mississippi. It runs $13 for a 5 quart jug at WalMart (I believe they do sell it in 5w20 as well). If my Accord was as new as yours though, I would probably go with the 5w20 Honda recommends.

There is no such thing as 10W20 by the way. To the original poster.....if you open the hood and read what it says on the cap where you add oil, HEY! It says 5W20!!!!!!!!!!

Thw 5W20 weight started with the 2003 models. Many previous year models will retro to 5W20 but that would not be on the oil filler cap until 2003+.
