Default 00 Cpe V6 Transmission options

I am aware of the problems that this transmission has. I am past the extended and class action extended warranty periods with 125K, and the tranny is starting to show signs that the end is near. So I am exploring my options:
1. Put in a manual
2. Put in rebuilt or wrecking yard automatic.
I want to do this myself.

Isputting in a manual possible for this year? Is there a site out there that gives a step by step process?
If I decide to go with another automatic, what year, model or serial number should I get in order to keep from gettin on the "new tranny every 6 months" plan?

Manual transmissions were not available on the V6 that year. I think they didn't start offering it until 02.

Here's my idea; take the Honda problem back to the Honda dealer and trade it in on a car you want.
Then the crummy POStransmission that Honda made will be right back in their lap.Get even with them !!!

Sounds like a good ploy for a "customer for life" plan.
I'm not going to go the new car route again, too rich for my blood. No one's interested in a tranny swap? Has anyone tried and failed?
