Default 03 Accord steering wheel radio controls

Hi all, first post here! I think I have my signature set up but either way, I recently purchased an 03 Accord Sedan 2.4L with just under 200k on the clock. This is a second vehicle for us and I just use it for running around town, but I really like it! Interior was in good shape and after a few repairs, it's in fine condition.

I'm trying to do some of the smaller, optional fixes myself - one of which is trying to get the audio controls in the steering wheel to work. The cruise controls work perfectly, so I thought I was safe from it being the clock spring. I bought a new control module and tried it out tonight, no luck. Anyone have other ideas on what the problem could be? I tried spinning the wheel and couldn't get the buttons to work anywhere along the rotation.

Thanks in advance!

It could be the clock spring, wiring, connectors, or the audio unit. To test electrically, you would have to remove the air bag. Use a volt meter on the grn/red wire to the switch to see if you have 12V. If not work backwards to the connector at the clock spring. The brown wire is the output to the audio unit. You can try reading resistance from the grn/red wire to the brn wire to the switch with the switch plugged in to see if the switch has about 100k ohm, then changes as you push the buttons.

Thanks for the quick reply and detailed answer! Unfortunately I think removing the airbag is beyond my comfort level. Darn, I was hoping for an easy fix lol.

Watch the video below to see how to remove the airbag. It doesn't look too bad.
