Default 1990 Honda Accord making noises when I turn left or right.

I have a 1990 Honda Accord DX 2.2 L that makes a certain knocking type noise when I am turning left or right around bends or corners. I know that the tire place said that my front tires may need alignment if that helps anyone to help me figure why it's making those noises. Could it be something dealing with the steering joints, etc?

Loose ball joints? If that's it, I hope the alignment place checks them out before they do an alignment.

I had a similar problem on my 95 LX. I replaced the upper control arms, upper ball joints, & struts/spring on each side & there is no more noise. It wasn't as complicated as it sounds & alot less work than I had expected.

I'd check the ball joints & see what type of condition their in, look at the reccomended interval to replace struts & base your opinion off of that.

Good luck

Last post has good information..take it to a shop that also does mechanical front end work..otherwise if you replace tires and don't fix whats wrong, you'll be replacing tires again ...

if this is at slow (like parking lot) speeds this will likely be the CV joints in the front axles are gone
due to the CV rubber boots developing tears which leaks out the packed in grease.

if happens when turning both directions that means likely both sides need replacement with new or remanufactured axles (like rwyatt80 and joec44, above said)

good news is these CV joints are very strong parts and won't leave you stranded at the side of the road.
I drove a Nissan like that for 10 or 20,000 miles until the clicks got so loud that people would look at me
as drove through the parking lot. Embarrassed, so I fixed it.

You've time to budget for it easily...

how difficult is it to replace the upper ball joint and lower ball joint in the front? I have the same problem, but only when I am turning a big corner to the right. When I turn it all the right, it tends to knock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 96 Honda accord LX with 122K.

Not too hard....the lower is more involved. If you are doing this suggest you get a good manual and read before jumping in.

Have you checked the sway bar end links?
