1991 Accord overheating on idle
 

hello new to the forum... ihave a problem i recently bought a 1991 accord and been noticing it gets hot when idling but as soon as the car starts moving the temperature goes down.... i have already replaced the thermostat, the cooling fan switch on the thermostat housing and the switch at the end of the upper radiator house that leads to the head... the fans come on while the car is on and after i turn it off... i don't think its the head gasket as the car runs too good for that and i have never got that smell of water and oil mixing... pls let me know what i can do thanks in advance

It is possible that cooling system is not completely filled and causing overheating. Bleed air from bleeder valve on top of engine to insure no air traps preventing coolant circulation.

If cooling system is filled, fans don't come on w/o AC and car overheats, then either fans are faulty (you said they run sometime, not clear when), bad fan relay (fans run sometimes?), faulty thermoswitch A (on the thermostat housing), or if fans are running and car overheats the thermostat is faulty and needs replacement.

Thank you very much... it was exact problem I was bleeding the wrong way... I learned the hard way after replacing parts that didn't need it... thanks again for the help
