Default 1991 Honda Accord LX 'S' Light: NOT TCU apaprently...

Hi, I'm new to these forums! I got a 1991 Honda Accord recently for a good price. It's in very good shape, but a few months ago, I experienced the infamous 'S' light blinking problem. It would either not start when this happened, OR it would start and be stuck in 3rd gear.

I jumpered it and the error codes I got were 1,2,7,8. Solenoids. However, I wasn't convinced that they were the problem.

After doing much googling and reading of forums much like this one, I determined that my best bet would be to replace or repair the TCU. I had it sent to a service on eBay that repaired it with new caps and resistors and gave me a year warranty.

I got the unit back, plugged it up, reset the battery, and it worked for a day or so... until it happened again. Argh! I jumpered it again (thinking that this time I should be able to trust the codes, knowing that the TCU is now good) and got 1,2,7,8 again, but THIS TIME I also got 14!

WTF is going on here? I know that 1,2,7,8 are the shift lock and shift position solenoid valves A and B, but what does 14 mean? Where is the best place to start? Is it possible there's a short in my main relay switch that is just confusing the computer? ANY help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

14-Linear (line pressure control) solenoid open or shorted.

So this does sound electrical...I'd start with inspecting the wires and connectors to be sure nothing is broken and all connectors are clean and tight.

Clean and check the soleniods.

Also, for grins, clean the ground on the t-stat housing.
