is there a difference form models, dx,lx,ex?

Only manual trans have a start signal relay. Autos only have signal from ignition switch to starter solenoid (a relay).

This problem can be caused by dragging starter movement. On some cars it causes overspeed of starter. If this is occuring the starter is being driven at high speed and may be damaged.

good luck

You can also take out your starter and take it to your local AutoZone/Advance/O'ewilys and have them bench trsted to see if the starters are good. :)

would they be able to check to see if somethings wrong with it?

it starts fine but the starter stays engaged while running and after its turned off?

I'm with Ang - pulling the starter is not that bad. From there, two choices.

1. Give the bedix a good cleaning and then re-lube, re-install the starter and see what you have? Or you can "bench" test it yourself before installing it.

2. Take it to almost any parts store and have them test it.

But you did make a statement about it staying running with the key off? Can you give more details about this statement.

It just started as when you start the car you can hear the starter is still engaged and when you turn the car off the starter is turning the motor over for about 2-3 min before stopping

Sounds like it's sticking, how is the key lock cylinder, is it refusing to spring back ? Can you take the key out without turning back to the 0 position ? If yes, replace the lock cylinder first.

No the key doesn't come out but the car was stolen before with a shaved key?

holmesnmanny 04-23-2014 04:01 PM

i would swap out the lock cylinder ...its not hard to do
