Default 1997 accord ex wagon egr valve issue

Hi everyone. I had a check engine light come on. Pulled the code its a p1491 egr insufficient lift. I removed the valve, it was dirty (carbon). I cleaned it really well, made sure the pintle could move up and down. I re installed it, it lasted for another 1,200 miles before the check engine light came back on (pulled the code, same one p1491). So i cleaned it up again (was dirty with carbon) and re installed it. Shoul i investigate the valve further (check to see if valve holds vacuum, apply voltage to terminals to see if solenoid functions ?). The car has 142,000 miles, and runs well. Thanx

That's what I would suggest too. I had to do that on my wife's 2000 Accord to get the code to stop coming back. It's been good for 3+ years now.
