1999 Accord 4cyl no compression
Hi Poorman,
Sounds like you think its a clogged catalytic converter. I hadn't considered that but it is certainly a possibility. I just got done putting the engine all back together again. I pulled the valve cover, timing covers and checked the timing marks. They looked good but I removed the belts anyway and relined everything up to be sure. Still running the same. I know now its not the timing.I was about to start checking sensors, but I like your idea about the exhaust. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the tip.

Poorman,
It was worth a try. It sounded like a 4cylinder bomber stock car but still was bogging down. I'm glad in a way that wasn't it. Catalytic converters are not cheap!
Thanks for your help.

Ok, here's where I went next. I decided to check ignition timing. I connected the #8 terminal to the # 13 terminal at the DLC port as per service manual. That overrides the PCM and puts the engine into the base timing mode (TDC). I marked the TDC mark on the balancer and hooked up my timing light. Pointer and timing mark DID NOT line up in fact it was about 2 inches to the left of the pointer. I am not sure if that is advanced or retarded. I am thinking timing is retarded. Book says if timing marks do not line up to replace PCM. I still do not think it is the PCM since this bogging down began after I reassembled the engine. Any thoughts? I really don't know where to go from here since the timing cannot be adjusted manually.
Thanks for your help,

Usually there are four marks on the pulley. The one by itself if the TDC mark. Then three will be close to each other. Those marks are 13, 15, and 17 (if your base timing was 15 +- 2 degrees. I may have that reversed.
You should have a sticker under your hood showing the base timing. If you search ericthecarguy and timing on YouTube, there should be a video on how setting the timing that will show you the marks.

The TDC mark should be displaced from the timing pointer when checking timing w/ a timing gun. Only the 3 timing marks should be close to the pointer when illuminated by flash. The timing will usually appear to fluctuate slightly.
good luck

For grins....have you tried the map/tps connectors. Next, double check the main ground to be sure it is clean and tight.
Thanks guys for all of your help here. Thanks especially to poorman. Once again you were right on the head. The map and tps connectors were switched. I don't understand how I did that as I marked everything as I disassembled it. You told me to do that over 2 weeks ago as well. I didn't listen because I had "marked" everything and it couldn't possibly be wrong!!!! Yeah right. I have been pulling out whatever remains of my hair for nothing. For some odd reason, the timing marks are now dead on when I put the timing light to it. Don't know why they weren't lining up before and I don't care!!! All I know is it is now fixed! Thanks again to ALL of you great guys for your help and suggestions.
