1999 Accord difficult to get into gear on cold mornings
Hi all,
I've found with my manual Accord, on especially a chilly morning that it is difficult to get it into gear.
It does crunch or grind but its just had to get the lever into any gear. By the time I get to work (about a 12 minute journey) it begins to free up and is easy.
Going home in the evenings at the moment it isn't particulary cold, so its not problem.
What is the fault here? Does it need a transmission oil change? or potentially a clutch? the clutch doesn't slip or anything but I didn't want to rule that out.
Its a 1999, 1.8 hatch
Cheers,
Karl.

Are you talking about excessive friction in the shift lever itself? Try moving the lever when the engine isn't even running. If so, it shouldn't have anything to do with the clutch.
I think in 1999 it's a cable shifter. But there weren't any 1.8liter hatches in 1999 in USA... So what part of the world are you in?

Judging from the word "cheers" in his sig, I vote he's from somewhere in the UK.

I bet it still has a cable shifter, but not absolutely sure. If so, try disconnecting the cables at the tranny. If the friction is still there, then you're talking about cables going bad/rusty/dirty. That seems easier than removing & rebuildinga tranny.
