1999 Accord DX Engine Swap

Hi. I killed my accord engine (Non-Vtech stock in the 1999 DX) and had the engine replaced by some friends at a local garage. The engine they swapped in is a vtech engine. The car runs OK, but it doesn't have the kickdown it used to have.

Was that a bad idea from start ? Is that something that can be fixed in any way ? Some told me i'd need another ECU ? Or maybe just reprogram the existing one ? For what it's worth, i have a Xeltek SuperPro eeprom programmer here.. might be useful ?

Any toughts would be really appreciated. Thanks !!

I would think you have to change the ECU if your going from a non to a Vtec.

Ok. Is the ECU different in any way or it's just the programming into the chip that's different ? Thanks.

You need an ECU that has a circuit that switches the VTEC solenoid. And an input for the VTEC oil-pressure switch. A non-vtec ECU might not even have anything hooked up to those pins?? And it needs the fuel & spark maps for vtec ON as well as vtec OFF operation.

Ok. So, what's the steps to follow to find a suitable ECU, do i need to identify the exact engine that has been installed (is there a plate with an exact model # on the engine somewhere, a sticker?) ?

Thanks in advance !!

Just found this :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=220598814213

Would that be good for me ? I'm reading i need to reprogram the VIN in it in order to use it. What is the tools needed to do this ? Is it possible with a eeprom programmer ?

I've seen the 'immobilizer' unit needs to be reprogrammed ? Any input is really appreciated !! :)
