Default 1999 honda accord leak

I have a 1999 honda accord with 240,000km, automatic. for some reason in recent months, the power steering fluid as well as brake fluid go very low about once a month at the same time? are these two things connected in anyway? It seems the oil leaks mid way down the body of the car. could be it is dripping all the way back? at lot of the leaking when I checked quick drips down around from where the oil filter is. Any thoughts?

The power steering system and the brake hydraulics have nothing in common, so I would treat them a separate issues.

Try to clean as much fluid as possible, then try to find the source of both leaks.

When you said midway down the car, do you mean between the front and back doors? That would have to be brake fluid, because the PS fluid routes around the engine.

For the brake fluid leak, I would start at the brake master cylinder. Try to find the highest point in the system where you find brake fluid.

Same for the PS system. Start at the PS pump and inspect the hoses. Then inspect the PS rack.

hi

now i am experiencing a new issue. Now the car is leaking gas. it seems everything is leaking around the same area. just in front of the rear tires. i have been experiencing gas smell for awhile, but last night i seen and smelt a small puddle of gas. where could all of the be happening. i think i may ave lost about 20km on this tank of gas since i put $30 in for gas.

Sounds like the "lines" are/have rusted out. You need to get this repaired asap. Leaking gas is never good, also this might help find the surce of the brake fluid leak as there are metal lines running to the rear brakes.

Suggest getting under the car, proper safety!, and inspecting the metal lines.

Same issue happened to me, you'll definately need to change the lines. Surprised you made it to 280,000kms before this happened. Mine gave out at 200,000kms.

If your a little mechanically inclined the brake lines are easy, but the fuel lines you should take to a shop for sure

Yes I found the leak for the gas. There are rubber connectors which then connect to metal gas lines, which elbow up and round, and area of the car, near rear tire, the leak is there. at yes rusted out. any idea the cost of this?

Cost depends on who is doing the work and how you go about it? Whloe new line vs just replacing part of it.....

If you take it to Honda it could be up to $1000, I had a mechanic do mine (2 rear brake and 1 fuel line) for $400. Hope this helps

Thanks Josh. I will post my cost when my mechanic quotes me. I am hoping it's under $500.
