2000 Accord leaking oil, please help
Hey all, i have a 2000 Honda Accord 4cyl atoumatic, i just needed all the help and input you guys can give, I was at the local quickshop when a buddy of mine told me my oil looks like its leaking, sure enough i got down and there was a huge pile and it was stil going, this isn't small leak i mind you but a large leak, i don't think i let it warm up as long as i usually do, anyway my dad towed it home for me and we didn't start it at all (my friend said i might seize my engine if i did, he also said i might have cracked my engine block) I just wanted to know what you guys thought since i know you have much more knowledge than me and my dad combined, also when i take it to the shop i don't want to be completely dumbfounded. thank you in advance, anything helps.
God Bless,
Kyle

It probably is the balancer shaft seal. See this TSB, although it list it for the 5th gen Accords, the same problem also caused problems with some 6th gen Accords like yours. Good thing you didn't drive it and towed it. The seal should be replaced and the retainer installed.

How many miles are on the car and has the timing belt ever been replaced? IIRC, the regular timing belt change interval for your car should be 7 years or 105,000 miles.
One of my friends 2002 Accord 4 cylinder last year had the same thing happen. He had the timing belt, water pump, seal, accessory belts replaced and the retainer installed, he told me the dealer charged him something like $700 - $800. You can always call the dealer and some independent shops to get an idea what they will charged. Many times the 2 belt tensioners should also be replaced too when changing the timing belt.

Without saying where the leak is located, it could be several other things too. The shaft seals are over towards the left side of the car. See a plastic cover way over on that side of the engine? Down at the very bottom of that is where the oil would leak out, IF it's the balance-shaft seals.
I kinda thought they had fixed that issue before 1998, but not real sure about that.
