Default 2000 Accord no crank

Hey all,
I have a 2000 accord that suddenly won't turn over. I am looking for any suggestions outside of what I've already done:

Tested starter - good
Battery is new

I am reading alot about the main relay and ignition switch. Does anyone have any experience with replacing these?

One other clue may be that when I turn the key to start, all the dash lights are bright except the battery and CEL. They are very dim. Any help would be GREAT!

You need to be clear about problem. "Won't turn over" indicates the starter is not engaging the engine and turning engine over. Please confirm this or "crank but no-start".

good luck

Hi and thanks for the reply. The starter does not turn. For some reason I have lost the signal to the solenoid from the ignition switch. Its my understanding that certain conditions must be in place for the starter to turn (ie. Trans in park). Just looking for some suggestions on things to check.
Thanks.

Just so I'm clear .

You verified that when the key is turned to "start" there is no voltage to the small wire at the starter solenoid with a volt meter or good test light?

Could we have a few more details about the car....engine (4 or 6), trans (auto or manual).

Sure - it's a 4cyl auto. There is a constant 8+- volts with the key on (start and run)

I have a power probe and I can bump the starter over if I put 12 volts to the ignition post on the solenoid.

So what you're saying is that you don't have power to the small terminal on the starter when trying to start the engine. This could be a bad neutral safety switch, connection to it, or a break in the wire, or just no ower from the ignition switch to the starter. What I'm getting at, is more investigation is required.

See attached wiring diagram. Fault is either ignition switch, wire/connector fault, starter cut relay, or less likely but possible PCM or PCM relay.

Check for ignition switch start signal at relay and if missing, the ignition switch fault is likely.

If getting a start signal at relay, but no relay close action, then investigate start cut relay ground signal from PCM/PCM relay and faulty relay.

good luck

Thanks for the info, Texas. I have successfully tested the switch and the main relay. Both work well. How do I go about testing the ground signal from the PCM?
Thanks again,
Andy

There is only a continuous ground from G101 on blu/wht wire. Check w/ a test light that a good ground is available. Test light connector to 12v and touch blu/wht wire pin at starter cut relay (remove relay to test).

If no ground available, then check whether ground is interrupted by clutch interlock swith (MT) or AT range switch for auto.

good luck
